Hand carved Chinese group figure depicting Guanyin with peaches in her left hand. Next to her is a bird and deer. Includes fitted wooden base. Measures 7" height x 7" width + 1" height (17.8cm x 17.8cm + 2.5cm). Guanyin is immensely popular among Chinese Buddhists, especially those from devotional schools. She is generally seen as a source of unconditional love and more importantly as a savior. In her bodhisattva vows, Guanyin promises to answer the cries and pleas of all beings and to liberate all beings from their own karmic woes. Based upon the Lotus Sutra and the Shurangama sutra, Avalokitesvara is generally seen as a savior, both spiritually and physically. The sutras state that through his saving grace even those who have no chance of being Enlightened can be Enlightened, and those deep in negative karma can still find salvation through his compassion.

Fabulous piece of Antique Chinese spinach jade ornately carved from one piece of jade. The front and back of the jar has a raised bat decoration. The handles, cover and hanging aparatus have a scroll design. No aparent signature. 18th/19th century. Measures 13 1/2" height (total). Jade jar measures 5 3/4" height (14.6cm) at lid top. Measures 10" height (25.4cm) with chain extended. Total height with stand 13 1/2" (34.2cm). Jade weighs 355.9 grams (not including base, 569.2 gram total weight).
