Lot 70a - KORNILOV PORCELAIN PAINTING PETER I INTERROGATING
Classical rendering in porcelain of Peter the Great interrogating his son Alexei, originally painted by Nikolai Ge in 1871. This is a dated, highly polished realism portrait of the palatial interior, Russian Tsar and Emperor, son Alexei, and diplomatic policies scattered throughout suggesting the demise of the son. On reverse revealing the coat of arms mark, double headed Imperial eagle-factory name “Korniloff Brothers in St. Petersburg”, and 1885/7. Guaranteed authentic. Measures: 10 ¼” height x 12 ½” width + 4 ¼” period, gilt frame (26.6cm x 32.3cm + 11cm). Pre-Sale estimate $4000-$6000.
